Drop in burner help

Post by NiceAft »

Does anyone have familiarity with these units.

ENO
Two-Burner Built-In Propane Cooktop...$310.

Dickinson Marine 2-Burner Propane Gas Drop-In Cooker...$620.

There is such a disparity in pricing, I'd like to know why.

It might be a moot point if none of them will fit, but I'd still like to understand the pricing difference.

Eno burners are 6000, and 8,500 BTU It is not recessed and there are no pot holders
Dickinson burners are 7000, and 11000 BTUs. The stove top is recessed so posts do not slid onto floor and they come with a set of holders so the pot will not move. If you look at the recent mods and go to galley rehab part 2 you will see the dickinson stove. We bought it on sale for $465 and it is very heavy duty, never spilled anything on our 5824 mile loop trip. Coffee never turned over despite many waves and boat wakes. My wife has only one arm so she cannot hold and stir a pot in rough seas so the dickenson was a no brainer for us. One spilled pot of hot water on someone will cost much more than the difference in these two stoves.

Stove #2 has the word "marine" in the name :) It does look nice though with some marine features others don't have.

Eno burners are 6000, and 8,500 BTU, Dickinson burners are 7000, and 11000 BTUs.
I went from an alcohol to double burner drop in propane thats 5800 & 9500 BTU. Most of the time we use either burner almost full low and almost never at the upper end.

When I googled the stoves just now I saw some combo units for under $300, may be another thing to consider for a compact galley.

This is why this group is a good one to check with before any decisions are made.

'Marine' will also most likely include features that are compliant with a marine installation.

The Marine Dickinson stove certainly looks great but unfortunately it's more than ten times the price of the little single burner portable stoves. :(

I have never been keen on gas in a small enclosed space such as a boat cabin.

Gas also means you need extra equipment like bilge blowers, shut off solenoids, external gas bottle storage plus you have to run lines from the external storage through to the gas unit.

Many of the butane stoves have big warnings on them about using them in enclosed spaces such as cabins, so while it seems a quick and easy thing to replace the standard spirit stove with a gas unit to do it properly isnt so quick and easy or safe.

Many explosions on boats are attributed to incorrect use or failure of gas equipment.

When I bought my boat it had two or three butane stoves and numerous gas canistered stored around the boat, they all went in the bin on the initial clean out.

I would be happy to have one for external cooking but not for inside the cabin

well I already have a bilge blower & a sniffer & have been using a butane stove inside my boat for 4yrs before I installed them , anything that is flammable deserves respect so 8yrs & counting that said the newer butane stoves now shut off if the flame goes out , so I,ll most likely up-date mine a little more money but at least u do not lose all ur butane if the flame goes out because of the wind blowin which is more likely to happen when using outside
Oh by the way if u should run ur house bat down 50% & recharge it inside the boat u have the same explosive situation "Gasses" inside ur bilge how did I find this out , my sniffer tell,s me way long before I can smell it :o

Just sayin thats all

PS oh & for u smoker,s who light up in the cockpit while sittin on top of 24 gal,s of gasoline !! :? :)
