An anchor windlass on the MacGregor is a difficult thing to accomplish! I am not sure if it is really needed, or just something that is looked as cool. The anchors used on the MacGregor should not be real heavy. You can also purchase a very light anchor called Fortress that has great holding power and is very light. Might be easier to do than the install of a anchor windlass, and the added weight of a windlass on the bow is not a great thing either!

Here,s the link to my installation , Its a pretty big mod & a lot of work , I still have too cut out the bottom of the anchor well locker & remove the flotation & then make or buy a bucket the same shape as the anchor well so as too extend it,s depth to allow for the anchor chain to drop away from the windlass as of now it will not drop away as it is not deep enough , even then I,m not too sure it will still b deep enough , may still have to raise the anchor locker lid as I,m going to drop the anchor well bottom only as far as the V-berth head liner
I remove the two quick release pins @ rear windlass is hinged to allow it to b raised forword open anchor hatch relock windlass in down position, then move the rear pin to port or S/B depending on which anchor I want too drop

PS search the mods section there was someone else from Aussie Land who installed a windlass on there not sure how deep they made there anchor locker

I prefer my anchor in the PCV pipe hose clamped to the pulpit, makes it really quick to deploy if things hit the fan, and we all know Murphys law, this became apparent to me when I was out in my JOG boat and the motor suddenly quit on me with the wind and the time pushing me through the mooring field and into the pier just beyond.

A quick grab for the anchor locker, open the locker only to find all the rode a tangled mess (not sure how it got that way), lucky another boat on its way in came along side and we managed to raft up and use his motor to pull us clear of the other boats and pier.

Needless to say I check my anchor every time before we go out now, a lesson well learnt

non è questione di ancora leggera o pesante io ho una trefoil da 7,5 kg più circa 20 mt di catena 6 mm e 30 mt di corda. non montare un verricello elettrico mi spaventa, credo che navigando da solo non sia molto semplice recuperare l'ancora..... quando avevo una piccola lancia ne ho tagliate diverse perchè incagliate negli scogli, con questa barca non mi vorrei ripetere

It is not a question of light or heavy I have a 7.5 mm trefoil plus about 20 mt of 6 mm chain and 30 mt of rope. Not to mount an electric windlass frightens me, I believe that sailing alone is not very easy to retrieve the anchor ..... when I had a small spear I cut it different because I stuck in the rocks, with this boat I would not repeat

Grea work!! Congratulations but I hoped for something simpler!!
