Anchor roller installation
Good morning,
I am ready to install my anchor roller in the front of the anchor storage box (26X). The running lights have been relocated and are not an issue. I will have to relocate a cleat. My concern is how do I reach the underside of the cap screws to secure the anchor roller. The space from inside the cabin is very tight. Has anyone used a toggle bolt? Is there an easier access point?
All help is welcome.

Re: Anchor roller installation
What year is your boat? The early models (like mine) had an access panel above the v berth. They got rid of that in later years. If you have that access panel, you're golden. If not... You will have to punch some holes or make a panel yourself.

Re: Anchor roller installation
How do you intend to use your anchor roller? Do you plan to store the anchor on it? The anchor roller from BWY that I recently
installed on my
is nothing more that a fairlead for the anchor rode when lowering or raising the anchor. Therefore it came
with 3 large self tapping screws which was explained in the instructions as the only requirement. If you plan to hang a heavy anchor off the end of the roller/bow then
a nut/bolt/plate might be in order through the top of the deck securing it all.

Re: Anchor roller installation
Thanks for the help. My Macgregor is a 2002 and I do intend to hang a 25lb anchor off the bow. I do have access to the area in front of the anchor storage locker. I am 6' tall and cannot get my hands and arms in such a small space. If anyone has pictures of an installed anchor roller for a large anchor, It would be very helpful.

Re: Anchor roller installation
I also installed my anchor roller with self tapping screws. My solution was to get one of these to hang the anchor on. https://windline.com/index.php?route=pr ... uct_id=117
They only work for Danforth style anchors however.

Re: Anchor roller installation
I have a 2001
and installed an anchor roller this past winter. I'm 5'10" and it wasn't easy. I removed my bow cleats and installed a piece of stainless steel as a backing plate for everything up front. I used a small electric screwdriver like this https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-BDC ... crewdriver, a universal joint, and lots of extensions in both 1/4" & 3/8" drive. I had trouble with galling of the stainless fasteners. I think it was caused by fiberglass getting on the threads of my bolts. Below is a picture of the finished product looking up from the v-berth.

I did it on my 2002x for a 25 mantus and it was tight but possible. Drill the holes from above and poke the bolts through. Then lots of extensions and poke the nut up blindly until you can find the threads. Mostly hold the driver stationary and a partner tighten the bolt from above with an impact driver. Take the mattresses out so you have a little space to lay on your back.

I was using Bed-it Butyl tape on the top side, so I couldn't have the person on the top side spin the bolts.Seapup wrote:I did it on my 2002x for a 25 mantus and it was tight but possible. Re: Anchor roller installation
I have a '99
without the access panel. Though it took some effort, swearing and patience, I managed to install nuts and large washers using a socket wrench with flexible extension. I used double-sided tape to stick the washers and nuts together. BWY states that you shouldn't use their anchor roller for permanent anchor storage. Now that I learned from this topic that they supply self tapping screws with it, I know why they say that! Given the forces that will be imposed on the boat, transferred from the chain through the roller, I would NEVER settle for just screws and always use nuts and bolts, no matter if you store the anchor on the roller or not.
