grab your topping lift...hank on 50 ft of rope..... hop in the dink.....paddle 50 ft tothe side....start pulling down on the mast...(with my plus 100 kg to work with) as the boats come toghether lean all the way out....., pull her on her side and motor through......go very slowly......

seems easier to lower the mast...the regular way...even with my CDI furler.....

we have lots of bridges in our sailing area, where i have to pull down the mast.
I therefore have installed a permanent v-shaped shearleg on deck.
with this installation i can pull down the mast singehanded from the cockpit
with all sails (and furler) up and pull it up directly behind the bridge. if the
wind comes (nearly) from behind i don't even need to start the motor.

Do you have to still disconnect the forestay/furler, as customary, or have you also got a rig for leaving that attached ?? ( I think the Odin/Mast 28 features a rig that stays attached and is hidden in the bow below the deck )

Yes, I think we need a hidden rig beneath the deck to accomplish this bridge stuff. Otherwise, you're up there with knees on the blistering deck trying to get the forestay back in it's little slot.

I have trained my Mate to do this, but she says, "Naa, let's just stay here and sail around between these bridges."

I haven't yet taken pictures of my mast-handling setup. (no digital camera).
but i will do so as soon as i can.
