I have a 26D with a decent crack at the stern of the boat. I'm new to fiberglass repairs and I need some assistance regarding how to tackle this particular repair. It seems like it may be more than just a simple gel coat fix. If so, what would you recommend?
It looks like the damage is to the gelcoat, but the fiberglass is ok. Is that right?
I had something similar, and just used some of the filler/fairing material that comes in a West System fiberglass repair kid. Grind off the edges so you don't have gaps and loose material, of course.

Hello all,

Thanks in advance!
In your next post, give a measurement or two so we have a sense of scale.
When I look at the photo, to the right side of the damage, it looks like it got hit hard and broke deep (southern for "significant damage"). Can you see the inside of the dated area? You need to get a look inside if you can. If not, you're going to have to do exploratory grinding to determine the extent of the breakage. If that breakage extends deep into the layup, there's a pretty decent series of how to go about it on YouTube. This is part 1:
I would suggest watching the series and generally doing it that way. Wear a respirator, and keep kids and pets out of the work area.
