Bilge pumps & pick up points 26x
I’m thinking of getting a set of small bilge pumps for my 26x. What type/ style work best? Where is best place to put them? And is there a way to get the last bit of water out, besides a sponge? I was wondering if a 10’ x 1/2” piece of pvc pipe capped on the end with small holes near bottom (like a leach line) would work attached to my tiny shop vac. Plumbed up to a convenient spot to attach to.

I have two of these, and really like them.Sheppie62 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 2:24 pm I’m thinking of getting a set of small bilge pumps for my 26x. What type/ style work best? The starboard one is under the aft berth. The pump fits right in under the liner without any fasteners. It's wedged in there and won't move. It's plumbed up under the head sink and out the side with a thru hull. The other is beside the batteries and goes out the port side with a thru hull behind the galley sink.
Neither picks up the gallon or so of rainwater that collects every month or two. For that, I'm thinking about something like this:

It could be plumbed to the head sink with some simple flex tube so when it's time to drain the bilge I could just reach in with a battery powered drill instead of a shop vac.

I've yet to see a bilge pump that can get that last bit of nuisance water. A sponge or shop vac works well for this.
Be careful where you place thru-hulls keeping in mind the boat heels and may become submerged and become a seawater ENTRY point.
Good info here.

Some folks have used a simple super soaker to draw water out of compartments.

"Overeasy" installed some interesting shop vac system for drawing out the last bits of water.
Hopefully he will see this thread and comment on his system.
