Moving the forestay chain plate.
So I’m planning my next moves to modify my 26D. Would it be worth it to move the forestay chainplate from the deck to attach to the outside of the bow. I saw someone did this and I like the idea to help unclutter the bow area. Is this advisable? Will it affect other systems? I plan on a roller filter in the future…would it affect this?

Just thinking of moving forward to create a stronger point at the bow.

This is how I moved and replaced my forward chain plate (V25 but similar to a 26). A piece of ss flat stock, some bolts and a little epoxy work. Pretty easy.

Some change in the angle of the forestay, might change your sheeting angle. If it changes enough, you might need a custom sail.

Re: Moving the forestay chain plate.
THE CUSUS's mod looks nicely done, would be easier than doing a bowsprit, and probably would not change the sheeting angle all that much. As long as you have rails with movable blocks, you should be able to adjust for proper trim. This would move the forestay forward of the nav lights on the bow (if that's where yours is mounted) and might not satisfy Coast Guard regs. If so, you would need to relocate it/them (maybe on the sides like THE CUSCUS's boat) and fill and finish the hole. Be sure you have adequate clearance at the pulpit, of course.
You had me puzzled by the roller filter comment until I realized you meant roller furler, right? Damned auto-correct. I can't see why going to roller furling would be a problem (other than you would have to hand in your "Real Sailor" card - just joking). It would, of course, require a longer forestay, so consultation with an experienced rigger would be a good idea.

The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.
