Sliding galley sell or toss?

I decided to remove and replace the sliding galley this summer. It’s not an efficient use of space, I never use the sliding feature anyway. I also want to install a partial bulkhead to match the one on the other side of the cabin since it adds strength to the boat.
Is there any need to save this unit? It will not be able to be reinstalled after I do this galley project, if someone were to eventually buy this boat. Also, getting it out of the boat might be easier if it was cut up into smaller pieces.

Hi Ixneigh!

I believe the galley on the Mac26M was designed to go into the boat after the hull and top deck shells were joined so it should be able to go back out the same way through the companionway. I also believe there were a couple of M galley mods that removed the galley from the boat to do the modifications and then reinstalled it.

It will probably be easier and neater to try and remove it relatively intact rather than dismantling it and cutting it up in-situ.

Had for me describe what I’ve seen in the prior M galley posts but there is a means to readily remove the movable galley from its track system.

If you do choose to remove it intact you could put it up in the forum wat ad section… someone might want to replace what they currently have with a stock original….

It may also be beneficial to consider your modifications (always your personal choice) such that the original galley could be potentially reinstalled at some point in the future… just a suggestion….

From my admittedly rough measurements it looked like it *could* fit through on its side. Regarding potential re-install, that won’t be a possibility since the new partitions and shelving supports will be permanently installed. I really want to relocate the water tank to under the back bunk or other location including perhaps a bladder under the cabin sole. (Not sure how much clearance is under there) to reclaim high value storage space. Space which is easy to access, to be precise. Plus I’d like a better, larger sink. storage for spices etc. it would be prohibitive to ship. But I guess someone if they want it could have it for free.

It’s easy to remove in one piece. Four nuts on the inside, bottom of the unit is all it takes to remove it from the slides. It’s light enough to get out by yourself. Someone may want it.

When I did my galley mod, I kept my original in case the next owner wants to go back to the original setup.

But, I’m happy with my mod.

Sounds like a good plan!
I’m sure that you’ve considered the all-up finished weight distributions into your plans to avoid making a built-in list to port or starboard.

When we made our dual battery mod with both batteries on the port side in the aft galley seat cubbie our weight planning work just fine.
When we decided to add the air conditioner however the availability/geometry (of what we could get and when we could get it caused us to alter our plans to deal with the physical space limits available) so we ended up with the A/C unit on the port side as well. We had originally planned to install it on the starboard side behind the head on our Mac26X. As things stand now we have a slight static list to port but when using the V-Berth and the converted starboard side dinette bunk things are perfectly even keeled for sleeping… serendipity is nice.

If in the future if we ever add additional battery capacity, an extended range fuel tank, water tank, trolling motor or any something heavy it’s gonna go on the starboard side though!

The original galley will come out in one piece. I did that to modify mine and then reinstalled it.
Of course mine looks like a 5-year-old kid made the mods compared to Jimmy's beautiful craftsmanship.
