Am just about to recieve my 2005 M............... Have worked out where to put am/fm stereo, compass and GPS, which will be flush mounted. However, I am scratching my head with regard to the VHF radio. While access from the cockpit would be great, I did not realy want the unit surface mounted adjacent to the boats switchboard, which would seem the most sensible place to mount it.
Any suggestions would be most wellcome.............
Help !!

On my
I mounted it aft of the galley (different than the
) and
(Plan 1)then ran a remote up to the pedestal.
(Plan B) YOu can use the below VHF from the port cockpit seat too, if you mount it up high near the companionway.
(PLan iii) If you buy the right VHF now, you could also get a wireless remote.
Plan (SQRT 16) SInce Ive been ranging offshore more around Nantucket (15-20 miles) I bought a backup VHF as well - you could just use this in the cockpit.

A good way to go would be first buying a good quality hand-held VHF and using it for a while to figure out how the boat flow works. Then it will be a great back-up once you have your mounted VHF. To be honest, I use my handheld as my primary and only turn on the mounted VHF so that its DSC distress location feature is ready to go in an emergency! Here is a photo of where I mounted mine in our 04M on the starboard side where you have easy access through the mirrored blank, as seen in the photo.
