E-tech 50

Post by Hurley »

Hi Guys

Wrote an earlier post regarding the probs I was having with my new e-tech 50 smoking, vibrating etc.
Following the dealer actualy testing engine management diagnostic software... appears that one of the injectors is stuffed and probably has been since fitting to boat.
Now waiting for replacement from the US (2 WEEKS SO FAR) getting worried that I may have purchased an K$8 dud!! Rememeber the FICHT fiasco.

Come on exsisting and happy E-tech users, reassure me that I may be paranoid and was just one of the unlucky warrenty %.

I've had zero complaints..

I just spend about a minute and a half doing the winterization procedure for mine... Gotta love a motor that winterizes/fogs itself...

Gotta say, I can't be happier with the Etec 50. I don't have any prior boat experience, but how could it be better.

Starts every time. No smoke or smell ever. Easy conversation in normal tones over the engine noise at WOT.

It had some weird throttle problem at the ramp recovering on the trailer, but I started taking things slower and can't repeat the problem.

I just can't come up with anything to fault after nearly 2 years and lots of hours, in varied service from Ensenada to the Canadian San Juan Islands.

Had mine for about a year. Runs great. The smoke is supposed to be normal for a 2-stroke. At first, I asked my dealer about this because I thought it was a bit much, but he reassured me that this is normal. Since I never had a 2-stroke, I had to take his word for it. Of course, with a clogged injector, you probably got way too much smoke. The engine hasn't given me any problems and performs very well. Arena Yacht Sales, where I bought my boat new, sells primarily E-Tec engines with their boats. They claim that they never had one come in with warranty problems in several years. Hope this helps. I suppose having a local Evinrude dealer who can take care of warranty issues would be helpful. Good luck!

Have any of your that have ETECs also owned 4 strokes in the past? IF so, how does it compare noise-wise at all ends of the throttle range? Thanks
