I wasnt trying to imply that the northwest is anymore dangerous than any other area.....ie.... the northeasters off of massachussets are everybit as dangerous.........

I was merely trying to illustrate that being close to shore is not always safer... things that do not look obvious sometimes. ...sorry about my focus there.

as far as the inside passage..

the north end is pretty tight...straights of georgia however have plenty of fetch to soak and tumble a mac sailor past the point of comfort., add a little haze, low clouds and 10 to 15 ft waves........its just hull.........lol.
