West Mersea Trailers

Post by 50/50 »

I have a West Mercea trailer and believe that the company have gone bust.

Does anyone know (probably in the UK) where I can pick up spares; brakes, wheel bearings and the like?

Some years ago Dixon Bate took over the boat trailer business of West Mersea although West Mersea have recently resumed making boat trailers. (It's an ancient custom in business, probably invented by the British).

Anyway, axle and brake parts are mostly from the major manufacturers (eg Al-ko) and can be obtained by mail order from:-

You mean the "Smart Car" picture?

I love those little smart cars Kevin. Every time I see one go by I do a double take. Can’t wait for the “for 4” to be sold here. So far just the “for 2”. With a family of 4, it’s hard to justify the purchase even though it would be just for a commuter car.

I'm not a fan of the Smart Cars myself - I've driven one and found it to be a horrible performer. However, they do have a new little roadster that looks marginally more promising.

Wow!

Nice looking car.
I was looking at the Smart Car just a commuter due to its incredible fuel economy. I can imagine the handling is definitely not its strong point.

It's not really the handling, per se, but the engine performance. That little motor barely puts out enough to get out of it's own way!

I'm not to fond of the sturctural integrity, either. I once saw one that had been hit on the Kensington High Street in West London... it was just a minor fender-bender with a mid-size sedan, but it had literally torn the entire rear 1/4 off of the Smart Car - wheel, suspension and all. The occupants seemed to be OK, but the car was thoroughly trashed... it's obviously easy to tear one of those up!
