That is the route except I was thinking of going around the west side of Beaver Island. There will be a 30+ mile beat from Beaver to Rock Island. We'll have to start out at the crack of dawn that day.Scott wrote:Yo' Mark, is this roughly the route you are proposing??
I coudlnt help but notice the 30+ mile beat west after the Beaver island day.
It looks like we'll have about 15 boats. You could lead a group over to the Mackinac Island area.Scott wrote: I realize that I've seen a lot of posts on the board about "been there done that" regarding Mackinac Island but my wife is angling for an overnight there.
On the way over you could stop at St. Helena Island which is 6.3 miles WNW of the Mackinac Bridge. It is a deserted island with dense woods, some good hiking, and a scenic lighthouse that is being restored. The shallow bay on the northeast side of the island provides secure anchorage, protected from the prevailing winds. The bay provides a good retreat when weather deteriorates during a passage of the Straits and you dont want to return all the way to Mackinac or to Beaver Island.
The Mackinac Island area offers an incredible number of fascinating destinations - even a cool Indian River inland route.
Each of the following is within 15 miles of Mackinac Island.
I like to go to different places each year. That might be a good spot to explore next year.
