Tender and mushroom anchor cleat on transom

Post by Catigale »

I put a stainless steel cleat on my :macx: transom today - jsut measured and drilled four holes, 5200d the hardware and rock and roll.

Backed them with one inch fender washers.

This cleat is for a clipping on the tender painter when at anchor, and also we clip our mushroom onto the stern to stop swinging.

And mounting view under rear berth - the dripping 5200 marks the new holes of course

Only casualty was while the Admiral was tightening the bolts on the outside, the socket slipped off and popped her in the eye, giving her a shiner... :| ...this mod might be a tad more expensive than I budgeted....

Exactly why I call a buddy over to help with ANY of that type of work.

Way too costly when that kind of "stuff" happens.

Sidebar - did everyone notice that my steering bracket hardware isnt centred on the fiberglass member ?

:?

Havent had any issues other than the bolts loosened a bit - especially the one on the sharp angle side. Its a pretty big job to fix it (moving the whole steering gear over) so not in the cards for me.

No, I missed that. More importantly, Roger missed~!
I wouldn't want to move it either, but might try to shore it up.
I'm thinking I'd try to nestle a piece of quarter-round molding into that corner, then drill through it from outside. HmDepot usually has the stuff in that scrap cart near moldings. I'd look for a piece of one-inch, rather than the more common 3/4".

Frank's idea is probably better one at least simplier but have you considered a piece of flat alum. (or angle if it is wide enough) and span across to the other stringer? Some shims to level it all off and you might end up with a spare mounting plate for future mods. Most hardware stores carry the alum. stock.

 Transom reinforcment for oversized outboard, thru-drilled for lower engine bolts.
