Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
Hi to all of you,
First of all, I must say that all of you are very cooperative and every body is trying help as much as possible.
Tony,
I would like to buy several other things including wedges but it is not that simple for me in getting the things all the way from U.S.A to Pakistan. Secondly the transport charges and taxes on my end would come out to be so much, that it would not be worth. So normally whenever I visit to Europe or United Arab Emirates, I search shops and buy personally. I could not find the any product like smart rails. Have you stick this rail starting from the bow untill the last end of the stern portion ?
Any how, I am waiting for your video and pictures.
Regards
Shehzad

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
Shehzad,
I started with the rails at the bow. I ran two sets of rails on each side. The total length was 18 feet for both sets of rails. That left about 8 feet from the transom that was not covered by the rails. To get an idea measure from the bow back 18 feet and you will have the placement. The boat would NOT benefit from having the rails go any farther back. I am pretty sure that you could run one set back and split another one in half, for 4 1/2 feet, to have 13.5 feet covered from the front. The main part of the spray I felt seems to come from the bow and not farther back. I included a link to the web page where a video of the Smart Rails in action is hosted. Here it is again:

Click on that link and you will find the videos. If I can help you any more just ask. Have fun, Tony

Thanks for video and pictures. I can understand it very well. Please inform, what is the speed you are going in this video and is it the bigger engine, which you have installed.
Also please inform that if is very often in U.S.A to go on engine by putting down the mast ? is it not danger of demmaging the mast while you are powering the boat, this may bend . I had posted a personal message to your mail, kindly check it out.

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
Shehzad,
I power the boat with the mast down a lot. Some of the people in this web page will remove the mast altogether. I find that a lot of work. I have plenty of miles with the mast down motoring. It has not been damaged yet. I make sure that if I go over any big waves that I slow down a lot to make sure that I don't send things flying. I replied to your pm but the motor in the videos is my old Nissan 50 and not the Evinrude 115. I will try to get some videos of the Evinrude to show you the speed difference.

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
Hey Everybody,
A little update. I went out to take the boat for her second new engine ride yesterday. Well I was coming back to the dock to pick up some friends and I found I had no reverse. Ran up onto the dock. Buddy suggested that I had spun a hub because everything was functioning properly. Well after raising the engine I found that there was no prop. Later on that same buddy suggested I look at the pictures I sent him of the engine. In one of the pictures it clearly shows that I have no cotter pin on the shaft for the motor. I am going to call them tomorrow and ask that they ship me another prop. I think that if they would have done a great job of rebuilding the motor this should have been one of their final checks. I will keep y'all posted. Here is a question for you. Do you think they should step up to the plate and send me a new prop since they did not cotter pin down the shaft? Thanks, Tony

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
I'll bet that prop is sitting down on the bottom, right where you hit reverse. Going forward I'd think the prop is going to push itself into the motor, but in reverse it's going to want to pull off... so... why not take a quick dive down and see if you can find it? At the very least, even if they do send you another one, this 'lost' one could be a useful spare.
And yes, I do think they should send you one - that's really carelessness on their part.

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
I agree with Kevin, in that your prop will be on the bottom in the area where you shifted into reverse. However, I think that the installer (you?) should ultimately be responsible for final checks of the motor before initial use. At best, they owe you a cotter pin. If they end up giving you a new prop, good for you!
BTW - What happened to the two pics of your motor on the pallet? I wanted to show my wife that your OB is the same one (Johnson 120) we had on our motorboat 15 years ago.

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
K9,
I really don't agree with you on the final inspection. Here is my case. You buy a new car and drive it off the lot and the front wheel falls off. No accident involved but a lot of damage to your new car. You should not have had to inspect the car to find out that the cotter pin that retained the front nut on your cv joint was missing when they installed it at the factory. I was told this is a rebuilt motor. After having this happen do I now tear down the engine to make sure that no other cotter pins are missing?
I spoke with the company today and even they agreed that they are responsible. I am waiting for them to call back.
As far as the pictures I moved them into the the boat pics folder in my Photobucket account.
Have fun, Tony

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
An update,
I was finally able to get in touch with them. The originally guy that I spoke with did not call me back. I spoke with the secretary and she said that she had already sent out the prop. I asked about the thrust washer and related hardware. The secretary gave me an attitude about they had given me the prop for free in the sale. To me they sold the motor with the prop and not separately. During the conversation I was losing my good value of their service. I could have seen if I had installed the prop myself. I would not have expected a thing but since they installed it I am putting the blame on them. For a little more info I paid for a prop from Defender this weekend before I had spoken to the remanufacturer. Have fun, Tony

Re: Transom Reinforcements (I can't believe ...)
Tony,
I can certainly appreciate the issue you are dealing with. You certainly have every right to expect a fully functioning OB, as that is what you paid for, and no, you shouldn't be expected to tear down the engine looking for other missing parts.
The re-man company made an error that caused you frustration. It sounds like they admitted responsibility and are making an attempt at restitution. My comment was based on the point at which I think the responsibility of the product is more on the owner and less on the seller.
Apparently, you had the OB in your possesion for three weeks when you lost the prop on your second outing. You also unpacked, inspected, and installed the OB. IMO, it is the installers responsibility to make sure that the unit is properly attached & functioning. Also, IMO, it is the responsibility of the owner / operator to periodically inspect the unit before / during use. This includes checking the prop, as well as checking the lower unit gear oil. You did check the gear oil, right??! The reason I ask this is that this unit may have been shipped dry, and would need to be filled / checked before using.
I hope things smooth out for you with this issue and you can get back to having fun with your Mac!
So, where does the responsibility of the seller end and the owner begin?
