K9,
I think that was part of my problem. I added oil to the gas and I had the vro. I really fouled a plug. Had to replace it. It was sputtering while the vro was on. When I took it off yesterday and ran the engine on mixed oil in a gas can and then off of the oil in the tanks it ran fine. So I removed the vro. Anybody want to buy a nice used vro. Works great if you don't have mixed oil in the tanks also. I am downloading portable apps for my usb stick right now. As soon as that gets done I am going to go pick up the boat. Hopefully I will have videos for y'all here shortly. Then you can see the Smart Rails. Have fun, Tony

Tony -
I wouldn't necessarily condemn your VRO as the problem, unless reasonable troubleshooting led you there, but then you didn't share with us the nature / symptoms of this latest problem, much less your troubleshooting process. I know that a popular approach to some engine problems is disabling the oiling system. Do some research to make sure it's right for your engine. Here's one VRO article that may help. Good luck.

K9,
When I originally placed the engine I put a "little" more oil in the tanks to make sure that it broke in with a little more lubrication. Then when I placed the vro on, that added to the oil going to the engine. So having both the mixed oil and the vro did not help to prevent the fouled plugs. That is why I am removing the vro. It was not at fault but I was. It is easier for me to put oil in the tank rather then rely on the vro. Happy sails, Tony

Final great update

Hey Y'all,
Well after taking off the vro I was able to take the boat for a good run today. I gapped the spark plugs to 40 thousandths. No fouling on their part. Yeah. Ran up and down the river at full throttle. With the new four blade composite Propulse prop I was able to get 5000 rpm. I am going to try the stainless and see if I can get it up higher. Well as soon as I can get videos I will post. I am very happy now with the new motor. Y'all have fun. Tony

Tony are you able to get the engine tilted all the way up without lifting up the transom seat? Post some pics too, I am really interested to see how she turned out. Any idea what your top speed is now?

Ak,
I am able to have the motor all the way up and still have the seat down. Yeah. The Evinrude has a really short v-4 configuration that makes it smaller height wise then my old Nissan 50. I am getting the reinforcing plate machined tomorrow. I just need to cut the c channel and install it inside the transom. I did not have the gps wired up yet when I took it out last Sunday. I am going to bring the handheld with me next time I go. Once I get the backing plate back on I will take some pictures. When are you coming down again? Now that I can take you out I am ready. Have fun, Tony

I fly out on Nov 14th and will be there on the 16th. Will be staying through Dec 20th. I am so looking forward to getting back to that good old southern warm weather. It's getting dark out here by 4pm now and I am not digging. If your up for heading out one day I'm game. We'll talk more later.

Ak and Shehzad,
I posted pictures to my Photobucket.com account: http://photobucket.com/tonyhouk You can see how much room there is with the Evinrude v-4 in the fully up position. I completed the mounting of the engine. For those of you that do the reinforcing on the inside make sure that you use a three inch c channel. The five inch would not fit. I just cut the five inch down so it was a flat plate with the L. I believe it will provide enough reinforcement to the transom. Now all I have to do is get the videos of the boat running. Have fun, Tony

Nice work Tony.
Have you given any trim angle, while fixing the engine. I mean transom wedge sort of thing.

Now, waiting for the vedeo.

Shehzad,
I bought a set of the wedges but I did not put them on for the final installation. When I am motoring I trim the motor up a little anyways. On take off I don't feel the need to trim the motor down to bring the bow down. It comes up on plane fairly quickly. Probably next weekend I will have the videos. Have fun, Tony
