My 50D will only run high throttle if I have the choke halfway out. If I push it in it struggles. It will not idle if I don't use the choke. I'm thinking of replacing spark plugs and shooting some carburetor cleaner.
Any other hints anyone can lend?
Also, what is the gap setting for the NGK B8HS10 plugs on the 50D?
Thanks.
Hank

I'll go with the carburetor
I worked over nearly 20 years at a cart track where small engines like Briggs & Stratton, Kohler and Robin 8 hp were being used. My job was simply keeping those babies in tip top shape. Occasionally a cart would stall excessively out on track and become either vapor locked from the heat or do the opposite stall at an idle, but run up fine. The ones doing the latter (wouldn't idle right) were the ones that had gummed up idle jets. I never cleaned them, just threw the carburetor away and all was okay.
It came down to realizing that those carts that I used as 'spares' were the ones that gummed up the most. Those carts that ran daily never gummed up. I began rotating my spares and using gasolene additives to suspend the gas when I stored a cart for any period of time. So I can see how outboards could really suffer from gummed up idle jets due to the fact that they aren't usually ran daily.
