Towing the line

Post by Nick »

First time poster from Autralia. I am interested to know if I am putting my transom at risk as I have mounted a couple of D rings to attach ski ropes to. I have bonded a couple of 9"x 4"x 3/4" plywood backing blocks on the inside of the transom. I am unsure how much load a couple of kids or even one big kid (aka me ) would place on the fibreglass stern.

Cheers Nick :macm: :)

9x4 backing plate is 36 square inches - two kids coming in at 200 pounds is only about 6 psi max, so that will be great. Put some fender washers on the bolts end of the D-rings to distribute the force on the plywood backer.

Engineering stamp of approval duly applied - too bad Im not an engineer...

Thanks I feel a bit better now. They make great rudder supports for trailering as well so don't have to worry about rope loosening from cleat.

Cheers Nick
