Sail Loft in Melbourne?

Post by Boblee »

Am looking to get some repairs done and another reef point put in, reckon the mainsail needs better battens and a much better way of securing them.
Lost two battens down the lakes and had lost one prior but as the wife was working the sheets and the winds were in the 30's they were flapping a bit :D .
If I was keeping the boat would put better sails on I think as the originals certainly are soft and baggy.
Had an additional reef point done in Adelaide originally but wasn't impressed with the placement and I didn't know any better at the time.

Hi Bob,

Posted a reply on TSP. I have used Peter Green and found him good.

Hi guys,
so far I have had a spinnaker made in Adelaide by Ray Brown. I also had my first attempt to create a self tacking headsail system based on that of the Noelex. However, due to me writing things down without having my specs on, I stuffed up the luff measurement, which threw the whole thing out. This was done by Quantum sails in Mornington. They had already made some sails for other Macs (Jack Sparrow comes to mind). As part of Australian Yachting racing safety regs for Cat 5N (night), I needed a heavy weather sail anyway. So now I'm having the stuff up converted to a heavy weather sail and another attempt at a self tacking headsail.

I can't find the quote that Quantum gave me but the headsail was $1250. One day I intend to get a new main, and the rough quote was something like $2000. If I find the quote (with pictures), I'm PM you if you like

I have used Quantum before for some high end racing sails on the cat I had, and they were first rate. Went from mid fleet to top of the fleet, and it was all sails nothing else had been changed.

I had North Sails in St Kilda put my reef in. They also did a good job and it looked the same as if it was done in the factory. I often take sails to North Sails to get various repairs and mods done to my skiff and have always been impressed with the quality of the job they do and the turn around time excellent.

Thanks for the replies, sent the main off to Peter Green after speaking to him on the phone and the advice on TSP.

Hi,
I just noticed that someone in Melb is selling a brand new Doyle spinaker on Ebay (asking price is $399 AUD)
