View live marine traffic with AIS

Post by Slamjammer »

This site is too cool....just discovered it this evening. Using an interface from Google maps, you can view AIS traffic anywhere in the world...zoom in and out...see pictures of the ships, etc. etc. The site is marinetraffic.com. Hopefully I can configure the link so it works:

WOW! Truly amazing. I can't believe the instant information you get on the purpose, type, position, course and speed plus all the static info on origain, flag, length, breadth, etc. The numbers of ships alone is staggering in some places. Thank you so much for sharing. You get a gold star.....

Another AIS display system for your PC, produced by a British Columbia company, can be seen at:

http://ais3.siitech.com/VTSLite/AView.aspx

On zooming out, you can watch various areas of the world where this software is implemented. When you click on a vessel icon, data is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Very cool....

Very nice!!!!!! Thank you for the url suggestion.

I found a supertanker going back and forth over the Flemish Banks, scene of the Perfect Storm.

(46.54883˚ / -47.61934˚ (Map)JASMINE KNUTSEN, Vessel's Details:Ship Type: Tanker, Year Built: 2005, Length x Breadth: 267m X 46m, DeadWeight: 148706 MT
Speed recorded (Max / Average): 12.8 / 7.9 knots
Flag: Norway [NO]
Call Sign: LAEA6
IMO: 9273557, MMSI: 257527000

Why would a tanker be going back and forth like this....hmmmm.

Now, because of this website, I will have to stay up all the time and police the world. As if I did not have enough to do already.......

And not only do I have to worry all the time now, the Somalia "CoastGuard" can look at all the ships leaving Dubai and see their ETA and everything. Uggggh.
