To winterize your boat, is that where you hang the colorful christmas decorations from the mast and lifelines for entry into the
annual marina holiday boat parade?

Is there another method?

:D :) 8)

Dan, I would love to be able to use your winterizing method, maybe someday. Like winning the Lotto, at least I can afford dreaming about it. 8) Rob

Don't wait for the lottery! You have to plan for it. We are getting the boat ready,a full year ahead of time, and by the time we head to the Bahamas,we will be 100% debt free. No house payment,no car payment,no boat payment. No McMansions,or new BMW's to pay for. Our extravagances are a new trailer, solar panels and a fridge for the boat-all long term investments that will make the trip possible.
Most people assume you're rich when you tell them you are going to the Bahamas for the winter. Far from it. But the fact is it doesn't have to cost a bazillion dollars to do it. Anchorages are free. No heating bill-solar electricity. 5 star hotels and fancy restaurants-not gonna happen. It's a low budget lifestyle, but it's winter in the tropics!
I'm figuring 3500-4000 for the entire winter, including round trip towing, trailer storage, and house utilities. And that's eating well, and a few long lunches at the Chat 'n Chill,or an afternoon visit to Tino's,our favorite little local bar in Gerge Town,Exuma.

Maybe James V will weigh in on this with some info.

I'll remember that in August when we are watching the stars from our cockpit and you are in front of your A/C. Oh, and let's not forget Hurricane season.

I think of South Florida as a place where it is necessary to "summerize" my boat. Basically from say Memorial Day until say Columbus Day, we get our nasty afternoon showers and thunderstorms like clockwork around 2pm. NOAA's forecasts are basically identical every day with only a couple of variables in the entire 4-month period: "...Winds xx to xx knots. Bay waters yy, chance of showers and thunderstorms, bay waters choppier in likely showers and thunderstorms." I can also tell you from experience that when lightning strikes the water someplace nearby, I feel a slight shock from the helm of my M. So basically, I "summerize", and enjoy my boat during fall, winter, and spring. I guess we can't complain too much, our weather is relatively great the rest of the year.
