Wheel lug bolts for 26M trailer

Post by Phil M »

I've spent an hour or two looking in previous posts for any information on the wheel bolts, or lug bolts, or wheel lugs, for my 2006 26M trailer. Two of the bolts sheared off (incorrect torque - my fault :( ) and now need to be replaced.
I took one of them to a local automotive supply store, and they looked throught their catalogue, but could not find a replacement. :?
Does anyone have any ideas of what type of vehicle would match the wheel bolts for a 26M trailer? Has anyone bought wheel bolts for a 26M trailer?

NOW I'm going to buy a torque wrench.

Thanks,
Phil M :macm:

The only place in North America to buy wheel lugs or lug bolts or wheel studs for a 2006 Macgregor trailer is from Waymire Distribution 317-631-7551. :o
The part number for these press in wheel studs is 32498.
They only cost about $.75 each, but the shipping will be a bundle. :(

A cheap torque wrench is $20. Oh well. Live and learn. :x

I picked up a few recently from a local auto parts store, Bennett Auto Supply, in Lake Park Florida. They manually matched it as:
Part number: 610-192
Description: 1/2-20x2-1/32 Wh
# Manufacturer: ACDELCO

This is a Florida chain, but they are online at: http://www.bennettauto.com/ and I was able to find that part in the online catalog with a part number search. Shows they are in stock and currently $3.49/ea. More than Waymire charges but thought I'd post just in case a second source is needed.....

Stephen,

I am actually more proud of the fact that I beat you to the punchline than I am of the punchline itself...

In fact, the shipping was $33 to Canada for 4 bolts less than $3 in cost. :( And, they only shipped the bolts. I assumed they came with nuts. No! :o I had to go out and buy some nuts to match.

So, using my torque wrench to take the old wheel nuts off, I measured my 'hand tight' bolts at around 50 lbs. of torque. They are supposed to be 85-95 lbs of torque. The wheel bearings are supposed to be 18-20 lbs of torque. I had them on at only 5 lbs when hand tightening.

The moral of the story is : Use a torque wrench. :|

Setting wheel bearing by torque doesnt sound right to me. I think you should set this tension by taking up the play in the bearing only. Setting 5 ft-lbs of torque would also require a very low scale torque wrench too.
