Anchor Stowage, thread then dragged anchor to windlass

I would like to get my Danforth Anchor out of the locker and stored securely on the bow. I have thought about a split bollard and then looked at the task of installing the backplate in the confined area forard of the anchor locker and thought there may be another more convenient solution. Any thoughts out there?

I hang my Danforth from my bow rail with a horizontal rail-mount anchor bracket.

Easier...go with the bracket above.

The bow roller works well for us, although I agree, it's probably difficult to install.

I also use the anchor mount , Defender Brand , It works Great !

I plan to move the nav light and install an anchor roller on the bow . I too , havent figured out how to reach the hole left by the bow light , to install a nut and bolt to hold the anchor roller .

I have just the short lead of chain from the anchor to the locker , so far,, flogging about hasn't been a problem.

I did learn , the hard way , the anchor locker cap doesn't work . A Mac anchor locker is to shallow to feed the anchor line down the cap . i must open the locker and feed the line thru the cap .

When the anchor is in the anchor bracket? Yes. I suspend the anchor shank from the bow rail so it doesn't rest on the gelcoat or rubrail. I also tie the chain secure. Both with quick release strings.

We have Two Anchors stowed forward on The Wind Wine&Song
First and foremost for us, is a 16 lb Claw look a like . Its stowed in the roller. I drilled a small hole in the anchor shank and hold it with a captured S.S. pin . The 2nd is a 17 lb Danforth look alike and that hangs in the Bracket K9..... showed,. I added a small pencil size bungie to hold it in the bracket and both have held in storms.......Big Storms under sail, that I hope NONE of you ever find or choose to be in..
I bought my boat ......from Bill on this site at Boats 4 sail and he set my boat up for single handing with among other things, all lines in the cockpit. Invaluable! Its pays IMHO to buy a boat from a SAILOR!
While we are discussing anchors.... If you use them enough and ever live on the hook , your bound to , at sometime, drag anchor, as I did once!
I now have the option of kedging two anchors off the rear wenches and using my raw water wash down pump to actually drain enough water from the ballast tank, to left my boat 6 inches in less than 15 minutes. Then just wench myself to open water ...

The Claw is up front and its 30 feet of chain and 200 feet of rode sits nicely in the anchor locker . I have installed a 3/8 " S.S. U bolt in the locker with a BIG backing plate. The Danforth sits in its bracket with 30 feet of chain in the locker attached to the aforementioned U bolt. Additional rode is in the port fuel locker.
For whatever good it might do me...... I have a 4 lb aluminum break down anchor for the dink... available as well.

Thanks guys I appreciate all the advice and looking forward to not having to spend more time stowing the anchor than solving Rubic's Cube!! I am also mightily relieved that flogging is no longer a problem!! It's becoming less of a problem down here as well. Recalcitrant crew are finally seeing the light.

I have two anchors as well - a two-piece "Raya Tempest" for my bow anchor and a Fortress FX-16 for the stern.

The Raya Tempest is a collapsible spade-type anchor, shaped like a Rocna without the roll-bar, that fits in the bow locker. It's built so the anchor stock pulls up into a slot in the anchor's 'spade' fluke; it's very solid that way. Unfortunately it appears that they've gone out of business.

I mounted a 3-inch PVC tube on the stern, for the Fortress - this is the mod: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/in ... ?view=1211

Hope, at least, that stern-anchor mount will be of help....

I've ordered the bracket from West Marine. Seems the best option until I find the energy and funds to install a windlass. Thanks for all the help.

Has anyone out there installed an electric anchor winch? The crew are about to mutiny. It's been a while since I have had to flog anyone and would prefer not to resort to this method of compliance...
