Bill, what's the latest on this?

I got to do some spinnaker sailing (not on my boat) over the weekend and now I have caught yet another disease...

Why on earth is it taking so long for this (already photographed) product to come out?

And will it still need a pole or will the bowsprit make that not needed for anything other than dead downwind?

The last time I checked, it was early next year.
Price, pole, bowsprit, etc. were still not definite.
I'll check this week and see what I can find out.

I just got a call from my dealer asking if I was still interested in a spinnaker and which one, to which I replied the new colorfull one with the extended bowsprit. He is looking for several customers to make a bulk buy and get a deal. Sounds to me like it is available.

Let us know what the group rate is. Also if you could find out about his shipping it to the states. (Seems a little silly to buy a product made in the states in Canada and then have it shipped back to the states, but who knows, currency exchanges can do weird things.)

Perhaps we will get a bidding war between Bill and Gerry.

I got this response today from MacGregor: "The large spinnaker and bowsprit are still on the to do list. They may be available in a month or two. The bowsprit attaches to the 26M anchor roller so may be a problem on the 26X"
This is basically the same response I received about a month ago.
I would think it would be easy enough to rig something on the 26X so that it could be used.
I plan on selling them at a discount when they finally do become available.

For those of you interested in an X or M retrofit let me know, submit your ideas and I'll call around to get a price on a dozen or so anodized 2" x 8' aluminium tubes, with some hardware from Port Supply(West Marine) we can make it happen.

I'll design a nice spinnaker to go with it and sell it direct.

Can you propose a price?

I really never liked the boring colors or shape of the original mac spinnaker. Their new colorful larger sprit mounted one looks much more appealing, but since they have yet to publish a real price for the one in their pictures who knows if it will be reasonable.

I'd want something like it, looks like a much fuller shape, sized for flying from a sprit using the factory jib halyard. I also like ones with a fairly high clew for forward visiblity.

I'd also want a sock for it to make it easy to handle, and of course a sail bag. Can you provide the whole system?

I don't know what weight fabric macgregor uses, but I wouldn't want a really light air fabric. It would need to be useful across a broad range of wind speeds without worry of a blowout.

How high up on reach can you typically sail with these spinnakers?

Just some feedback looking at your Macgregor sails web site.

You might want to distinguish between the 26x and the 26m main sails. The 26M sail is substantially larger as the mast is 2' longer and it has more roach.

Also almost everyone finds that the single factory reef in the Macgregor sails is too large. It is very common to have a second intermediate reef added.

Have you actually tried a loose footed mainsail on a Mac? The factory sails use a boltrope in the boom? I'd be glad to test one for you.

Up to what windspeed is it safe to fly a .75 nylon spinnaker in?

Can you add luff pads to your genoa's for a better shape when roller reefed?

Do you have a cost to add a UV protection strip to the Genoa? I have a standard Dolye 150% genny and am interested in having sunbrella UV added.

$4.00 per running foot (leech + foot)

As for the other replies, since the M is still so new, I didn't think many people would be looking for new sails just yet.

For the spinnaker I just need to do some more homework on finding a suitable sized aluminium tube thats anodized.

I'll extend the discounts through the winter and into the middle of spring. We get a good price on 4.0oz dacron all year round but our summers here in San Diego get so hectic with our wholesale work and our local retail business that for those that want good US made sails get them in the fall, winter and spring. Also for those that want custom details, i.e. location of reef, it isn't a big deal for us to make it happen.

We shipped a performance cruising spinnaker to Spain last week, the customer just recieved it so we'll post some photos and his comments regarding it as soon as we get them.
