Awwww. These little boats could be great fun even if the keel goes bad. You don't really need it. Make a water ballast tank out of the existing trunk and install a daggerboard. Cut three feet off the mast, copy the rigging including the rotating mast of the newer M model and gave a pretty good sailing wicked cheap boat. Who's one achillies heel, that heavy keel, is gone. Alternatly you could do what I did and make it into a unicorn lugger. Making the unstayed mast deck support structure was a bit of engineering but well worth it. Had I not got the M model, I would be doing the water tank mod and building chine runners instead of a dagger board. It would be the ultimate shallow water sailor.
