Keeping rain and wind out of hatch/companionway

Post by Capt Duffy »

I have an older 22 and the sliding hatch doesn't meet up well with the companionway door. There is about half an inch at the corner and a few other spots. Obviously, when we get rain with a little wind I get rain in the cabin (along with anything else floating around in the air). Does anyone have any solutions to closing up these gaps?

Not mine, but I replicated it. Be careful not to install the door sweep too high off the existing door. I did at first, because the sweep was notched perfectly with a sort of ledge to rest right at the top of the companionway door. I'd recommend lining up the edge of aluminum part with the top of the companion-way door so that only the rubber, sweeper part is sticking up above it.

I have used the one that comes without the metal with self-adhesive, less than $5 at Hope Depot. During the winter the glu stops working.
I think that I will upgrade to this type as well.

Thanks! Looks like another trip to Home Depot for me.
