I just bought a 1972 MacGregor 22. I pick it up tomorrow and I am very excited! The boat is in great shape and needs a good cleaning and going over. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a used rudder for this sailboat as it is missing. I will post some pictures soon.
Would any one have a picture they could post of a rudder for a 1972 MacGregor Venture 22 ? I am trying to find a whole unit - rudder, tiller, bracket and I need a picture for reference to match one up.
Here are some pictures of my rudder assembly from my '72 V22. I have the lower section detached as I am in the process of fabricating a new one. The metal hardware is all very simple if you have to make one from scratch. I hope the pictures help. Let me know if you need more measurements or anything. God bless.
Ronnie - there really isnt a market of good used boat parts like there is for cars. The best way to find such things is to post on the popular sailing boards for your model/year boat and either find someone parting out a boat or somone one who can loan you a rudder to duplicate.
THe Venture part of this board is the right place here, and the trailorsailers.com website has an even more active Venture audience that can help!
Thanks for all the replies and pictures. Everyone has been very helpful.
I like the new rudder/tiller option from IDA Sailor. I may buy a new one or fabricate one myself, I am not sure yet. If a used one comes along in the meantime, I will go with that.
I think my boat is a 1972 Venture 2-22. From what I have read, with the pop top and other gear, it is a 2-22. I am excited and can hardly wait to sail her. My previous boat was a DS16 which I enjoyed greatly.
