Mac 25 Mast Channel and sail
Mac 25 Mast Channel and sail
Good evening, I've has my 25 for a few seasons now. I'm still new to sailboats and I have a question about the channel on the Mast where the main sail rides. My sail has what appears to be an internal cable that slides into the channel. I've seen other sails that use clips that ride in that channel instead. Am I missing parts one do I have an older sail or something?

Re: Mac 25 Mast Channel and sail
What you describe are known as "sail slides", or "sail slugs". They are not standard equipment on Macs. Instead, you have what is called a "bolt rope". High performance boats use bolt ropes, because they disturb the air flow less than slugs. A lot of pleasure boats use the slugs, because they are much easier to handle single handed. Macs use bolt ropes because they're cheap. You can convert you present sail to slugs by using a product such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4gRliz77xM
