Hi, All,
been a while but I'm still here.
Has any one researched having a Mac trailer made in Aluminium in Aus?
My genuine unit has failed in the vicinity of the compliance plate on the main draw bar. Rusted through - from the inside out around the pop rivet holes. (No way of hosing inside the draw bar is there?)
I've reinforced it with a 100x100x5 RHS bolted underneath, but I really feel crook every time I drag her up the boat ramp. There might be other weak points.
(I use mast up storage at the boat ramp, not been registered/inspected since it rusted.)
I have to do something. I see Blue Water selling US for $7k, I wonder if there is a local source??
Tks guys,
C ya.

Re: Aus Made Trailers
Hi Clemo,
Yesterday, I did a handover for a customer who purchased a Tattoo 26 who did not require the trailer as part of the package. It is the new Tattoo 26 trailer, aluminium frame with galvanised draw bar and wheel rims. It will be modified to meet Australian Design Regs- change of coupling, rewired, VIN plate etc etc. The bunks run parallel to the frame, not like the MacGregor 26 that had the bunks running parallel to the axel which should fit the 26X without too much modification. I can do this one for AUD$6,000-. PM me if you are interested or look on our website for my email/phone number.
Regards
Cameron

Re: Aus Made Trailers
Hi Everyone,
Last year I went on the lookout for a new trailer for my pride and joy 26M.
I wanted a trailer of that would reliably and comfortably take my Macgregor ‘Spectre’ from Canberra across all parts of Australia. I have a trip to the Ningaloo Reef in North Western Australia planned.
My research on this site and many others eventually led me to to the petersontrailers.com.au website.
It was the Saltwater Series branding that first appealed. Also the aluminium I-beam chassis, twin axle torsion bar suspension, stainless steel hydraulic disc brakes, LED lights, Fulton F2 winch and alloy wheels all sounded pretty cool.
Peterson claim they make “simply the best Australian Built custom trailers’.
Following my email they quoted $13K so I ordered a custom trailer for Macgregor 26M.
What followed was a bit of a saga which I will not cover here, suffice to say I do not think they really understood what a Macgregor 26M actually was. And we all know a 26M is not like any other trailer sailer or ski boat.
The first trailer they delivered was 2000mm too short. The second one, a good length but it had a ball weight of over 400kg.
But a few months later all is fixed. It now has a ball weight that my Diesel Ford Territory can handle.
Justin from Peterson Trailers did not always agree with me, but he did stand behind his brand. He has fixed all my issues and those of the ACT Registration Office. Peterson Trailers has earn’t my respect and full support.
The total weight of the loaded boat and trailer is 2100kg, the boats sits low, rides well and the electric breaks are brilliant.
I believe, there is now available a very high quality Australian Made trailer. It took them quite a while to get it right and a custom Peterson Saltwater trailer for a 26M is not cheap.
However, now the ground work is done, I believe they make the best 26M trailer for Australian conditions anywhere!
Steve

For that sort of money it would need to be a real good trailer!!! Does the over 2000kg mean you need a break away setup??

Re: Aus Made Trailers
Yes, my understanding is that is correct.
The electric brakes have a controllable acceleration sensor in my dashboard.
When it detects deceleration in the vehicle, it electrically switches the hydraulic brakes on. There is a battery powered breakaway unit as part of the hydraulic pump.
So, no more do I have to stop at the side of the road, with smoking trailer breaks, on long downhill runs like the one down to Mooney Mooney Bridge on the Newcastle Freeway.
