Treasure Hunting ;-)

Post by Mac26Mpaul »

A few people have given me some positive comments regarding my "treasure hunting" expedition with the kids last September. For those that didn't see the vid, its here if you're interested in a fun activity for the kids/grandkids...

The map was copied from this guy long before we went on the cruise
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF3jKjqsm58
It was screwed up in a ball, and then It was painted in a mixture of coffee and water and little bits were torn off all around it, and the edges and a few holes were then burnt with a lighter. It was then put in a rum bottle which just happened to be on the beach when we went for a walk!

The "treasure" had been buried in "dead man's swamp" while the missus was entertaining the kids not long after we arrived in the creek.

My boy still has the rum bottle and the map is now in bits from him pulling it out and then jamming it back in the bottle and taking it to show and tell LOL.

I'v had to promise them we will look for some more pirates loot next time we go away for a cruise.

So yeah, if you have young children, or grandchildren, its worth the effort I reckon

Cool.

Not as much for kids as adults, but an afternoon "treasure hunting" with a metal detector burns away an afternoon quickly 8)

Do you have a map that really has treasure at the end of it cause that would be cool! Say like a cool million or two? I don't want to get greedy and maybe some other guys here could have a map worth a million or two also but I asked first :) :macx:

That was a superb idea! But then your YouTube videos often have useful and interesting tidbits to make cruising fun and comfy (like your one about those little dollar USB fans that now festoon my own boat). Yeah, I'm subscribed now.

For other great memory makers to keep the kiddies happy on board, one might check out David Seidman's The Anti-Pirate Potato Cannon: And 101 Other Things for Young Mariners to Build, Try, and Do on the Water.

Very cool indeed! Our daughter is 15 1/2 but I dare say, we would all enjoy a family adventure like this one- even if she called B.S. on the old man! You guys are amazing parents and your kids will be that much richer for all the experiences you provide them.

I don't think I saw the original post of 2015, at least I don't remember seeing it.

During the summer of 2017 we took two of our grandchildren on a pirate cruise on Lake George.

We dressed the kids in hats, eye patches, and swords. I dressed in a pirate outfit, and we went out to search for treasure. All the while we blasted through the stereo the tune "He's a pirate" from "Pirates of the Caribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl". I had earlier in the day went to an island on the opposite shore to bury paper pirate chest filled with plastic Doubloons. It was a success :)

P.S. Today the girl is 8 and her brother is 10, and there are two more in the group, courtesy of our younger son.
