2015 Holy City (Charleston, SC) Roundup 23-25 October
The 4th Holy City MacGregor Roundup is on! Your host and hostess will be Bob and Lynn onboard SV Interlude. There will be a slight twist this year as we have purchased a new boat and have found a new home for our 26M (SV Syzygy). The prospective buyer is local so Syzygy will be with us but with a different Capt at the wheel.
The average high temp in Charleston in October is 76 degrees. Perfect sailing weather with cool refreshing nights.
It's suggested that participants arrive on Friday. We'll berth at the Charleston City Marina.
Please either PM me or post if you plan on participating.
See below for some amplifying info.
Launch and Recover
- Launch and recover suggested at Remleys Point Boat Ramp (operated by SC Dept of Natural Resources)
- There is a 72 hour limit for car and trailer parking at DNR boat ramps but even with a Thursday arrival and Sunday departure, everyone should be within that window.
- Link to Remly Point description https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/boatramp_ ... ?p_id=340
- It’s about a 2.5nm transit from Remleys Point to the City Marina
Marina
- Charleston City Marina. http://www.charlestoncitymarina.com
They have great service, facilities, and a shuttle bus to downtown. With sufficient heads up they should be able to berth us together. I have arranged for slips under the group name “MacGregor”. Please call the marina once you’ve commited and give them your contact info and let them know that you are with the “MacGregor” group.
Suggested Itinerary
- Friday –- Travel to Charleston, launch boat and transit to the marina. The earlier you launch the more you can sail.
- Saturday –- Sailing day. Inner harbor, up the Wando River or out to sea through the jetties. We can anchor for lunch or pull in to Shem Creek ( m http://shemcreeksc.com/ m ). The Town of Mount Pleasant just built a huge floating pier for day docking. Return to City Marina Saturday afternoon. Saturday night open for dinner in town, hang out at marina, etc.
- Sunday –- Recover and return travel.
Notes:
- Travel time is about 5 hours from Raleigh to Charleston (I-95 to I-26) and 6 hours from New Bern (US 17) to Charleston. Atlanta is about 6hrs. Jacksonville, FL is 4 hrs.
See the thread from last years event to see how much fun we had, both the water and ashore! http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... 1&start=60
There are some nice pics posted at the end.

Yep, once we get familiar with the boat... Want to head south after the new year for sure. Need to train the crew and the cat!

Re: 2015 Holy City (Charleston, SC) Roundup 23-25 October
It's time for an update to this years Holy City Roundup. Sorry for being absent on the thread for so long. We've got great interest in this years event. Lots of folks chiming in on Facebook sites. Looks like there is definitely interest in Charleston as a destination. Here's the latest on participation and actions needed.
Interlude - confirmed with City Marina
Syzygy - Needs to call and confirm with City Marina (843-723-5098)
Compromise - confirmed with City Marina
Galactica - confirmed with City Marina
Wind Wager - Needs to call and confirm with City Marina (843-723-5098)
If you are thinking about participating I have 2 more slips on reserve but only for a couple more days. It's transient season in Charleston and the marina is fully booked. They will only hold the remaining two slips for a couple more days.

Man I did not want to miss this one however having just moved to MS we won't be able to make it
Charleston is a great place to go sailing and enjoy the historical downtown with M. C. Lynn. Best guide around.
