So I've decided my next thing to get done on my V222 is the electrical. I'm going to rip just about everything out and redo it all. Adding a new volt meter, stereo, and some strip LED lighting instead of the one dome light that is there now. I'v added some pics of what's there now. Complete rats nest. Anybody have any tricks or ideas for a good setup they may have done or wish they did. I've only had the boat for two weeks so I'm trying to put some thought into where to run wires, best place for batteries, easy access for repairs, etc.

Re: Venture 222 new electrical project
Doesn't look that bad.
Whats your budget? What functions in what locations do you need or want?
If that were my mess I would simply disconnect each load (label them) at the panel, lay the wires out
and rebundle them neatly up out of the way. A tuck here a reroute there. Map it all out.
Put it back together like someone actually cared about it.
Evaluate it.
If I found something bad or needing replacement or repair fix just that for now.
I would have put the ground buss bar and the panel in the same area like up behind where
your radio gear is.

Looks like it needs to be rewired to me. Just remember:
Circut protection, Current limiter as close to the battery as possible. Make sure all wires are large enough so that the circut protection smokes prior to the wires!
Purchase a lot of ty-wraps and mounts

Make sure your ground circut is the same or better than your power.
Draw out everything prior to starting.

Re: Venture 222 new electrical project
This project took me a little longer than I thought but it's finally done. I ended up not doing the whole thing. I left all the longer runs of wire and will be replacing them once I get the boat packed up for the winter and have a little more time. None of the wiring is marine grade, just regular copper so I'm sure if i left it I'd be doing it eventually anyway. I did replace all the rest of the wire and I'm glad I did. All the wiring was a mismatch of different gauge wires. All the electrical wires were mixed in with speaker wires. Some things were just maretted (not sure how to spell that) together and others were solder spliced but weren't even taped or anything, just exposed. The other half of the rats nest was the wires running the long distance from the breaker panel to the ground bus. I moved the bus onto the backing plate for the port jib pulley. The through bolts fit the mounting holes on the bus perfectly so I just put a second nut on those bolts to secure it. I got rid of the old stereo and will get a new one eventually. I live in Quebec and can't speak french so there isn't much radio that is tolerable here anyway. The longest part of the project was making the new board to fit in that strange shaped area. Was a little tricky but it ended up looking pretty good. I don't think the picture does it any justice but the finish has a much nicer gloss than what it shows. I ordered 14/2 gauge wire for everything I replaced which should be enough for what I'm running now. I'll probably go a little bigger from the battery to the breaker panel at a later date but I'm sure that will be good for now. I also ended up ordering some LED strip lights off amazon for $12. Those really brighten up the interior at night compared to the one dome light that was mounted on the starboard side above the table. All together for this I bought the wire, a package of various marine grade connections with shrink wrap and ties included, a plug and mount for the anchor light plug at the mast that was deteriorated, and the strip lights. Total cost was less than $140 and I still have plenty of wire, connections, and about 4 feet of lights left for other projects. I'm thinking a strip of lights in the stern hatch for getting things at night would be convenient.
