Patience is
the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.
I am having a hard time with this word. My boat has been in the shop for going on 2 weeks waiting for a new motor to be put on. Wanted to be on the water this weekend but no joy. I mean we are having a cool wave in central Florida, its only 93 degrees today!!! I am not good at "tolerating delay". I cannot even work on the boat so I come here 3 or 4 times a day to see if any of you are having fun. Reading about Chinooks loop trip is nice way to start the day, we are simply jealous of Mike and Sandy. So everyone keep posting so I can at least read about doing something with a boat even if we do not have one for another week.

Re: Patience is
Ris,
Bought my first boat this summer, a Mac 26D, and we love her. My question is when do I stop being a newbie? I have my rigging derigging down to 25 minutes, totally have the Mac bump down, and installed a tiller tamer. And...last night after what is probably my last sail of the season, I slipped off the dock as we were loading her onto the trailer. Waist deep in 55 degree water not wanting to go deeper. And of course my phone was in my pocket.
I have lots of lessons learned this summer, totally worth the price of admission.

Re: Patience is
I think the fall into the water while loading / unloading with phone in pocket is possibly the last of the true initiation tasks any noob has to complete before becoming a old hand.
Congratulations

sailboatmike,
Well, I already made the mistake of thinking that National Talk Like a Pirate day allowed me to call the Admiral "wench" all day. In my defense, I did stay in character as much as I could. I even heard my brother on his boat issue the command "repel all boarders" as he jumped into the middle of a sailboat race that was in progress.

I think being baptized while loading your mac means you are no longer a newbie. For me 72 degree water feels like ice do not want to swim or fall in 50 something degree water. It will be another 2 or 3 weeks before you can sleep on a boat in comfort down here in central Florida. Unless you are as tough as Gypsee who is from Alabama and is in the keys about now. The water temp in the Gulf around Tampa Florida is 84 degrees and in Tampa Bay the water is 88 degrees. You can sweat while you wade the flats fishing for redfish this time of year.

Re: Patience is
I did make a newbie shocker on the weekend, I actually went for the first sail of the season and FORGOT to fly the pirate flag, I know that is very poor form and I humbly apologize to all fellow Mac sailors.

I usually do not dare calling her wench - witch is OK but there is a long explanation for that oneCurwen wrote:sailboatmike,

I have no patience at all - that's why I never became a doctor. Today I have been pestered all day by this creature that keeps popping up every time I go on the internet:

He is driving me crazy.
He is driving me crazy.

Re: Patience is
Poor Ris,
When my motor became "untrustable" last season. I used my Mac mainly as a raft or launch point - as I paid for my mooring for the season - & I wasn't gonna let that go
So, I Paddleboarded, SUPed like Crazy, swam & just "rafted" including sleepovers & Lunch / Dinner. Next time, Try it

& Curwen:
We got a word for you & it's not Newbie, It's Captain... as in: Welcome aboard Cap'n
Also look up LifeProof cases... Don't go on board or by the pool without one
