Roller-Furling Main

Post by MacGregors-piper »

I have been looking for a roller-furling main unit. I saw the YouTube video but cant seem to locate where to buy it. Any ideas or info on a Roller Furling main add-on, boom unit. (without replacing the boom) Thank You.

BWY used to sell one for the M but unsure if they've made it for the T26 yet. It might be the exact same but I'd give them a call and see.

When I was looking I thought that it would be a nice feature but after research the cons out weighed the advantages.

I have the boom furler that you see in the video. If you are as talented as some of these guys are, you could build one. It was designed to a minimum price point. Mine came with the boat, and I like it overall. I hope to improve the bolt rope/roll tracking - which is my biggest gripe.

Pros; infinite reefing. Quick dousing. Ease of setup/takedown for trailering (local distances). Roll sail up, disconnect boom, and ratchet strap whole mess to stanchions.

Cons; sail roll does not naturally put the bolt rope in line with the mast track. Not completely hassle free raising and lowering (3 rears old). Achieving good Sail shape when reefed is dicey. Rear bearing is a nylon bushing rotating on a stainless cable.

I guess he moved the main sheet to the end of the boom? Interesting.

Yes I guess its not a solution for reefing but storing the main would be good once you have a snap shackle on the mainsheet.

I think I need a good solution for a rotating attachment to the toplift too.

Declan used to have one in his boat, but he does not enter into this forum often...
