Forward Hatch

Post by Slaterstm »

Hello, I just purchased a 1979 Macgregor Venture 25 and I'm going through her. My first question is, is there something that holds the forward hatch down? There are two screws that go through and extended about 2 inches. Were there like dogs that latched? Also what is a good size water bags that fit under the sinks for freshwater?

There should be a bracket made from flat stainless shaped kind of like squared U with a hole in the middle and one leg shorter than the other to hold the hatch closed.

I believe the galley came with a 2-1/2 gallon bag but the fresh water set-up leaves a lot to be desired. Many of us replaced them with something better.

for the hatch, there should be a "dog" that is a piece of ss flat stock, about 1/2" wide, with the ends bent up, one end about 1/2" the other about 1". There is a hole (sized for those studs in the hatch) near the longer end. Put this piece on the stud, the long end towards the hatch and the short end to the lip of the hatch opening. secure dog to stud with a wingnut. Can't help you with the water bags. I put a 20 gal hard plastic tank under the V-berth.
