I have a 95 26X with the original rope foot mainsail which I intend to replace. Apparently Loose foot is the way to go but I am not sure how the loose foot mainsail tack attaches. My boom has a plain aluminum rod from inside the boom that connects to the mast with the inverted J bolt used for reefing. The bolt rope in the foot held the sail to the boom. Outhaul on one side but does is it really loose all the way to the mast? Looking at the 96 26X manual the boom to mast connector has
(I think) a clamp to pin the tack to the boom.

Re: New Loose foot mainsail
Loses footed mains normally have a sail slug at each end to hold them to the boom (well mine does)

Re: New Loose foot mainsail
Tack should have a cringle and attach same as bolt rope foot did.

That is Sumner's S but you get the idea
As sailboatmike said you will need a slug to fit on your boom at the clew. When I changed my main over to a loose foot I had to fit one as it did not come with one.
