My new to me 1998 I have had it about 6 months. This is the first time I have tried to post a photo on this site and want to see if the photo came through.

First time out: Overnight First time - Motor ran good, Prop cavitation was bad. Prop is 10 3/4" x ?. BWY said it needs 12x9 its on the way. Bottom of boat needs heavy scrape lots of calcium type build up.

Scraped bottom and sanded with 100 grit
second time out: Overnight - Admiral came, wind was calm to light, expecting 10 to 15mph. Admiral piloting boat most of day while I tweak stuff bobbing around. Wind picked up to 5 to 8mph moving smoothly along. I go below deck andwe must found some of those mountain turbulance winds. The boat turned hard port and heeled about 45 degrees or as the admiral said it dipped and rolled. I believe experienced our first round out. It quit just as quick. Could have been a dust devil, we get those here. We were not too far from shore. Good day on the lake.

Thanks looking forward to many years of adventures.
Repairs: Sliding hatch leak due to mfgr drilled through with 3/4 drill (drilled too far when installing hatch rail). Will post photos
of repair when completed. I have found two of these drilled too far.


Replaced shifting cables working but corroded and stiff - 14feet teleflex - done.
Motor well drain runs uphill, will trap water and freeze. I think this was leaking from PO. No damage - mod finished.

Trailer - new drum assemblies, new master cylinder, Brace tongue with 3"x 3"x .188" square tubing. Will post later in
repairs and mods.

Sounds like you're getting a lot accomplished. Congratulations. Also, sounds like the Admiral is a keeper. A few folks have reported that one knock down/roundup is all it took to end the Admiral's boating career. Sounds like yours just took it in stride!

What engine does it have? It’s not a Honda BF50, from the color and the prop recommendation. BF50’s were super common on these boats at the time.

User hint: Add the engine to your boat description, as it helps folks answer questions. Most folks just tuck it into the “Location” line.

When I had it at the lake. The prop would cavitate before getting on plane. I took the prop off and found no stamps to tell what size it is. It measured 10 3/4 X ?.
I called bwy and they recommend 12X9. It is already installed and ready for the next test run.

Another problem was a calcium type build up on the bottom approx. 1/16" thick see photo above it looked like carpet. This has been removed by scraping with razor scraper (photos and removal later), then sanded with a cheap electric sander just down to lightly touching the gelcoat (bottom has never been painted). It appears to have worked OK. This too will help. Maybe paint in the near future. Already looking at building wooden cradle to lift off trailer.Maybe this summer.

As to the round-up I measured the mast angle to be greater than 94 degrees. More like 96, making it very susceptible to round-ups?
Since then I have tightened the turnbuckle under the furler all the way, about 2.5 to 3" total. Next time when I put the mast up I will adjust the cables again for this. I am looking for an adjustment between 92 to 94 degrees. Might have to raise hounds tooth?

Is that a Hawk on top of your mast?

I'm not sure what you mean with the mast rake. It is supposed to have some degree of rake aft.

CALCIUM on the bottom? That looks really thick to be calcium. Are you sure it's not white bottom paint?


We get a scum line along the bottom and of course green slime after months in the water. Kept in slip no bottom paint. Soap and scrubbers take forever to remove it.
The best way I found to remove this is Mary Kate ON/OFF. Nasty stuff and you need good ventilation and protection, but it's magic.

That is an Osprey. It had landed on the mast a couple of times and I got this photo. Then I decided that it might not be a good thing to have a large bird lighten its load on to the boat, so we told it to leave.

The manual describes mast rake as aft lean 94 degrees, I think I want 93 maybe? Will have to set up mast and then test.
