Cleat replacement

Post by Dougiestyle »

I stepped on 1 of my cleats this past summer and it snapped :( so I have replaced it. Here are some photos showing the repair.

A 4" hole saw worked well.

2 large washers for backing. I used 4200 to bed the cleat and some on the washers.

I finished up by glassing the removed 4" hole back in place. No leaks. last long long time.

It's a bit disconcerting that you can break a cleat by stepping on it. What year is your :macx: ? Mine came with stainless deck cleats all around. Adequate, but I wish they were one size larger.

The cleat was original, 22 years old and I guess stepped onthe pointed end. Probably some brittleness. Looks like it broke from the bolt hole.
