No mention of when or duration of future closures for replacement bridge construction as yet but it generally takes longer to build something than to tear something down… and cost a whole lot more!
The scuttlebutt is the bridge was compromised by multiple years (decades?) of
and had become a safety risk hazard to road as well as ICW traffic and was beyond repair. Fortunately Georgia received desperately need fund through the recently approved Infrastructure Bill and can now finally get on with its replacement before it became a much greater problem rather than an inconvenience….deferred maintenance
