A while ago there was a thread about someone who had replaced the cooler that came with the X with a 5 day cooler that fit into the cooler liner without modifacation.
I know it would give up some capacity, but since I don't use the cooler very much, I was thinking of going this route for now, rather than taking the liner out for a bigger cooler. I did a search of this site but could'nt seem to find this topic. Anybody know what size and brand of cooler this is?

That would be Moe's 5-day, 36 quart Coleman Extreme cooler on sale at K-Mart cooler (from the Mods section- get ready for the electric slide to the Modifications page
).

The inside of this cooler will take almost exactly 10 half-gallon milk jugs, and that includes in height. That wouldn't be the case if the jugs were bulging, and it works out to 20 quarts usuable, rather than the advertised 36.
I suspect that to last a full five days, at least 8 frozen half-gallon jugs (about 30 lbs of ice) would be required, whether they be just water, or whether some of them were other frozen drink. To last three days, 6 frozen jugs (22 lbs) should probably be sufficient.
This cooler does sit about 1-1/2" or so down in the tub, and when like that, the lid won't open all the way vertical. I think it would be wise to raise it up with foam insulating board underneath, and perhaps even put a 3/4" thickness below it, and 3/4" above. As far as length and width, it just barely fits in the tub.

I have an X and I originally tried the 36 quart extreme cooler in the existing liner tub but it just did not have enough capacity even for one person.
My solution was to remove the liner tub, insert a 3/8" plywood floor and then install a 58 quart extreme cooler. Now I have a 5 day cooler that I can actually pack 5 days of provisions in. If you take this approach, you will need to make the rectangular hole in the seat liner slightly wider.
In the case of both coolers, I chose to remove the hinges entirely from the lids and just lift the lids off to gain access.

Now that I've been turned on to the frozen 1/2 gallon milk jug, I'm thinking we can do a LOT better on our next 4 night trip. They fit so perfectly in BOTH coolers.
Seven of them in the 36 quart cooler give 26 lbs of ice, 8-10 more than we had the last trip. A 1/2 gallon of milk more than lasted the two of us for cereal every morning. We had some left over. That leaves the space of two 1/2 gallon jugs for a couple of cartons of Egg Beaters, and meats and cheeses, some of which could go in frozen.
Four of them exactly fit in the center of a ring of 16 beer cans around the bottom of the Igloo Ice Cube Cooler and 16 frozen 12 ounces bottles of water, for a total of 26 lbs of ice, probably fit on top of the beer cans, with lots of room left over for more.
Can you tell I'm jazzed about 1/2 gallon milk jugs?
Update Tried the milk jugs in the food cooler on another 4 night trip. Only had room for six 1/2 gallon jugs in the 36Qt cooler, but a little of the food was frozen. Ambient temperature was higher, 70's at night, as high as 90 during the day. At the end of the trip there was still enough ice to last another day.
