My Yamaha wont go pee pee

Post by Sloop John B »

Three days out in the salt, mud, and tall weed slime and when I get in, I hook up the garden hose to the break in the cooling system that Yamaha provides and nothing happens. I drag out the big barrel and dunk the bottom of the motor and start her up and theres no spout.

This happened last year with a guys Honda and he fixed it with a wire or something clearing the vent.

I tried a pipe cleaner, but it appears more complicated.

I take the hood off. Theres a little quarter inch water hose that runs all over the place with Ts in it. Undoubtedly it runs down to where the water is sucked in.

Ill try an air compressor in the two openings but dont have much confidence of success.

Anyone ever hang around to see what the mechanics do?

Dont tell me they dismantle the entire engine. Spare me.

Weed Eater

Post by Timm Miller »

The pipe cleaner is not long enough......use a piece of weed eater line...about 15 inches long. Silt and mud can clog it up quick if not rinsed out right after you get out...the next day it has dried up. I have seen this happen too many times.

Mercury Pee

Post by Mark Prouty »

I have had some experience with this problem. I have a 16 foot runabout that can run very shallow if I trim the motor up at full throttle. She'll actually scoot over water only about 15" deep. Others slow down and get stuck. I live near the Wisconsin River and frequently scoot over sandbars. I can get to a very secluded stretch of river doing this. On occasion, I misread the river and the boat gets stuck. When this happens, it usually will stop peeing.

Here is how I correct the no pee problem on my Mercury 70hp 2 stroke.

 There is a little plastic insert with a small diamater hole at the end of the water line. Little grains of sand can block this. I always carry a strong length of wire to poke these grains of sand out. Most of the times this is all that is needed and will cure the problem.

 On occasion this doesn't work. This plastic insert is attached with a hose clamp. I remove the clamp and plastic insert and use compressed air to clean out the line. I actually carry a small compressed air tank with me on the river.

The methods above have always worked. I have seen mechanics do them. I have never had to have my impellor replaced.

fixed, I think

I disassembled the small rubber hose line that leads to the small plastic insert pee hole that clicks to the 'shell'.

The rubber hose was clear. The other end of the rubber hose fits onto a male protrusion, held by small electrical tie, sticking out of a square brass fitting that screws into the engine block. It's over a foot long and and bends so it would be hard to get to with a wire.

With the garden hose intercept on full blast, the male tube was dripping. A couple of wire jabs and it began to drip faster. Then it began to spray. Then, vooom, out she shoots out over the top of the shell twenty feet out on to the lawn.

Looks to be all right now. Checked it with engine running in plastic tub full of fresh water.
