emergency tiller

Post by norbert »

question to tahoe jack: is this black thing in front of your outboard an emergency tiller socket? did you post it in the mods section? if not could you please give some details? how does it work? i am seriously looking for on a steering backup as i plan to do some "oversea cruising" this summer (from german baltic coast to denmark's bornholm island  , a 70 miles offshore trip). i also deliberate to extend the outboard's tiller arm. thank you.

emergency tiller

Hi Norbert.....your spring plans sound exciting. Have fun. :) Yes, the device shown in the pic is my emergency tiller. The mod was posted last season, search under 'motor', or my name. I had a sudden cable siezure and had to hug-steer the motor to get back....once is enough, check the mod for details. Happy to answer any questions. 8) Jack

Here is one I made a few years ago. I had to use it a few weeks ago, and it worked just fine.
