Anyone have experience with comprops?

Post by Jimnkathy »

I need a new prop for my Nissan 40d. I have a hard time finding a prop in the St Louis area. I was at Cabelas and they had a prop by comprop that would work on it. It was a 4 blade rather than a 3 blade. It was only $69.
I figure since I am new to sailing it would hurt to start with a prop that is easily or cheaply replaced.

please let me know if anyone has any experience with these props. Is 4 blades better than 3?

Thanks Jim

I like those composite props, and I especially like a 4-blade prop -- less vibration & much smoother.

I bought an "open-box" Comprop at WstMar. However, I believe their lowest choice of pitch is 17 inches ... way too much for my Suzuki-60. It now rests in my garage, along with a half-dozen others. If you found one for your 40 that is pitched at 11 or 12, I'd say go for it!

tried on on our IO powerboat . outstanding performance. great price. Other than potential for total descruction if struck, it was great (never got damaged..wheeew)

If it is properly matched to your boat, it should do well

The one I saw at Cabelas was a 13 pitch. I think they can order a 11.
Would it be much of a difference going with the 13?

Jim - I think a 13 pitch will be way overpropped for a 40 HP (I believe you have)

My Bigfoot 50HP is overpropped with an 11 by comparison...
