downgradr to an x
I would edit that statement as follows: M owners would you UPGRADE to an X!!!!
There is no doubt in my mind I made the right choice between an X and an M.
I was ready to purchase a brand new M, until I realized, that only the X would make the coastal cruiser I wanted.
When I get a chance I am going to post the following mods: Hot water heater, transom shower, built in chest refregerator, microwave, flat screen TV, inverter, custom Honda 2000 generator support, radar with interfacing chartploter/ GPS, and autopilot with remote control.
A lot of the mods I would not have beden able to fit on the M.
Next year I'm going to update my rig with the M's rotating mast, and I feel I will have the best of both worlds!!!!

You might want to do a search of Jack Sparrow first . . . .then tell us all what can and cannot be done to an M I believe you will find over 100 listings. . . BTW I dont see anything on your list not already posted and there by installed on an MRic K wrote:I would edit that statement as follows: M owners would you UPGRADE to an X!!!!There is no doubt in my mind I made the right choice between an X and an M.

M vs X
FOODFIGHT!!!!
No I wouldn't because I hated the interiior color scheme; which kept me from buying a Mac for many years. When they upgraded to the current M interior style and colors; that's when I bought my

I also think the rotating mast was a huge improvement.

I like the M better overall but the X does have advantages. Although the rotating mast on the M helps with performance, it's more work to put an electronic wind indicator on it. The M also has a heavier mast which may be stronger but harder to put up. No backstay on the M also makes it easier to rig but it's tough to control mast bend without one (I've added running backstays to mine). The M daggerboard helps performance but the X swing keel is nice if one hits a rock. The rounded hull on the M probably results in less wetted surface area while sailing but makes it a little slower when powering. In general I like the M interior better and from everything I've seen it sails better and a little faster.

After perusing the Mods section it appears the M lends itself to more creative architectual design improvements than the X does, particularly the '03 M. As Divecoz pointed out one just has to do a search on Jack Sparrow's mods to see what can be done. Another great example is what Bob Currie is in the process of fabricating with the aft berth bulkhead he is building, that mod makes the '03 a winner hands down, try that with an X. I believe it is what one can do with mods that make one model stand out from others.
One generalization that can be made is that once someone buys the model they do they tend to justify it as being the better choice just because it was their choice and not neccessarily on legitimate merits. Psychologists have some post purchase expression for it, I forget what it is right now.
There are certain little nuances that distinguish the different models and make them somewhat unique but they are all basically the same powersailor that do the same thing, it is just the small differences in layout that differentiate them. None are an upgrade or downgrade they are simply more suitable to the individual needs.
That said, Bob Currie is still making a champ out of the '03 and Jack Sparrow is making a star out of the M.

Well, it's not really got nasty yet. Like a fine wine, this argument needs to fully mature before we can consume it.MARK PASSMORE wrote:Ok. Ok. I’m convinced. I will go right out and trade myfor a
this week……. NOT.
Moderator. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if you delete both the M vs. X and the X vs. M threads. Both boats are FANTASTIC and we are all fortunate and blessed to own either.
Seriously, though - it seems pretty good natured and folks are generally behaving themselves, so I personally don't think we should trash it. Until we see sombody running with their scissors I think we should let the game play on.

Yes, please. I'd like to see that one!Ric K wrote:When I get a chance I am going to post the following mods: Hot water heater, transom shower, built in chest refregerator, microwave, flat screen TV, inverter, custom Honda 2000 generator support, radar with interfacing chartploter/ GPS, and autopilot with remote control.

I am currently doing the layout, planning, and buying equipment and materials to upgrade the electrical system on board the S/V BOLD VENTURERic K wrote: When I get a chance I am going to post the following mods: Hot water heater, transom shower, built in chest refregerator, microwave, flat screen TV, inverter, custom Honda 2000 generator support, radar with interfacing chartploter/ GPS, and autopilot with remote control.
It would be nice to plan for a eu2000i Honda Generator. The location and mounting is the biggest concern. It would sure be helpful to see how Ric K solved this problem.
Fair winds,
Jim
I find the M vs. X comments to be mostly instructive and hence of value, particulary for prospective purchasers.
However, I can easily do without overly combative, nasty, insulting or similarly discourteous comments, on ANY topic, on this site. Plenty of that available on talk radio and TV. Luckily, we have had virtually none of that on this board. Good job, moderators. Thanks.

I too would be very interested in seeing the generator mod as would Kevin. . .IMHO a great place for me might be in the dink aways away from the boat. I have a question too is there a big difference in Noise between the 1000 and the 2000Captain Jim wrote:I am currently doing the layout, planning, and buying equipment and materials to upgrade the electrical system on board the S/V BOLD VENTURERic K wrote: When I get a chance I am going to post the following mods: Hot water heater, transom shower, built in chest refrigerator, microwave, flat screen TV, inverter, custom Honda 2000 generator support, radar with interfacing chartplotter/ GPS, and autopilot with remote control.with work to commence end of April or first part of May.
