Lost my blue Etec 50 to galvanic corrosion
Greetings! Haven't posted here for quite a while but felt I should share this experience with other Mac owners. I purchased a new 26M from Mike Inman back in 2007, with a newly installed 2006 Blue Etec 50. (I say "Blue" because I have since learned that the preferred saltwater version of t...

Re: Is Marina power metered?
Mostly Anacapa & eastern Santa Cruz. Haven't ventured out to Santa Rosa yet. The Santa Barbara Chanel is unique when it comes to sailing. If you can sail the Potatoe Express, you can sail just about anywhere.

Re: Is Marina power metered?
Greeetings, Here in Southern California it seems like metered power at permanent slips is the standard. I have my 26M slipped at Chanel Is. Harbor off the central coast. I have it plugged into shore power all the time in order to maintain the batteries topped off with a three stage Guest charger. Th...

Tips on Installing Fuel/Water Separator
Purchased a Moehler Fuel/Water Separator & was planning on installing it on the port side of the outboard well on my 26M. The plan was to drill two 3/8" holes & fasten the filter head to the well with SS bolts with washers & nuts. I've since discovered that the inner fiberglass line...

Re: Need to zinc outboard support
Thanks for the tip Ixneigh, You're probably right about the Etec not having enough zinc anodes to cover the bracket. Your idea of tap & screwing on one or more on the bracket sounds like a good idea & is something I'll try out when I take the boat out for the winter. BTW, how did you dangle ...

Re: Need to zinc outboard support
Maybe checking the owner's manual every now & then would help.. Duh!

Thanks for the input guys. I'll be checking the mount anode next time I'm at the slip.

Need to zinc outboard support
Hi again, My :macm: has been in a slip off the central California cost for about 3 months now. No bottom paint (yet) but have been paying for monthly bottom cleaning service to keep it from growing a beard. (It's a mystery... I leave it parked out there for a few days & out of nowhere, nasty stu...

Re: headsail sheets snag on mast base
Hi Judy, Thanks for your interest. Actually, the halyard ocassionally snags on the port side locking nut of the mast raising winch hound . I've covered it with aluminum flashing tape, which helps a little, but doesn't totally solve the problem. The halyard leads up to a cheek block at the top of the...

Re: headsail sheets snag on mast base
Yup... the darndest thing, eh? Everytime I go out, they get stuck at least once. Your tip on keeping the main halyard taught seems to be the only way I can keep it from snagging on the portside of the hound while raising the mainsail. The mainsail halyard cheek block at the top of the mast is on the...

Thanks for the post... BTW, finally got a slip in Oxnard. Using our

headsail sheets snag on mast base
Finally replaced the OEM Doyle genoa with a much better quality Hyde 150% genoa. Excellent construction for the price... What a difference! There is an annoyance that hasn't gone away with the new sail, though: Occasionally, while tacking fully unfurled, the genoa sheets get snagged on the base of t...

Re: Main halyard swivel block
Ah, reversing the bolts to prevent snags... I think I'll try that. Thanks Terry. I'm sure that several setups work well & diferent configurations are preferred by others, but as for the Harkin 140 & the :macm: ... I couldn't find a similar swivel block without a camcleat & I think the 14...

Re: Main halyard swivel block
Come to think of it Jim, the snag does seem to happen only when raising the mainsail... I covered the offending nuts with aluminum flashing tape & although that helped somewhat, I still have an occasional snag.

Re: Main halyard swivel block
Hi Paul, After trying a few options, I found that (since the :macm: has a rotating mast) the Harken 140 is the way to go. I removed the cam cleat that came with the 140, ran the line to a block with swivelling shackle plus a second straight shackle to the base of the stanchion, just starboard of the...

Re: Anti-fouling & Temporary Slip
Thanks Bobby,
Blocking at a yard may be a good alternative for me.
BTW, how do you clear the bridge?
