Apparently, BWY mods the table on the 26M's they sold. Mine has a piano hinge so it can fold in half. This provides more room to work when the table is not needed at full size.

Still mulling over the bunk conversion issue. I don't see us needing it, but currently I'm thinking of keeping the feature. The plate rack will intrude on one edge of the bunk, so it might not be practical for use. I'll evaluate it further when I get it mocked up.

The piano hinge idea is a cool mod. If I didn't need another drawer, I'd probably incorporate the piano hinge.

Not much visible progress for several hours work. Everything was in the way, or in the wrong place, or so small that I had to go slow to avoid blood letting. And, since I was only doing one drawer and a small surround, there was no economy of scale. All the R&D went straight into the one unit.

Anyway, got the drawer bottom cut out and completed the drawer box. Gave the assembly a quick sand to get the pencil marks off and clean up the edges. Made the ridiculously small edge trim pieces, and got them installed on the surround plate. Trimmed the drawer faceplate down to get the edge gaps right, and edged the drawer face. Smeared some wood putty in the nail holes and in a few nicks in the framing lumber I used for the structural pieces. I'll probably paint the underside, but I'd like it to be smooth - in case a bare leg rubs against it. The Admiral would make me walk the plank over an abrasion, or (gasp) a splinter.

My dishes and flatware arrived today, so I'll be able to start on the plate rack when I get the drawer wrapped up.

Sure wish I had your design talent. Nice job. Pardon my question but what did you use to attach the various items to the hull?

I used PL construction adhesive. In my opinion, it's a bit more aggressive version of liquid nails. I used it on an earlier construction project and thought it performed well. I'll let you know if it lets go, or pulls a chunk out of the hull in a pounding sea...

It's cheaper than 5200. I don't have enough experience with it to recommend it for this duty yet. I would not have used liquid nails, though.



By the way, it's the questions/comments that make the projects fun. Always glad to hear questions, concerns, alternative ideas, etc. I'm old, but I'm still trying to learn.

Pic 2 was earlier in the day, before the wind picked up. Pic one shows that the old Packet still has some life in her, when there's some wind to work with.

We went again today. No pics, less wind. We took a Priest and a Coast Guard Captain with us. The weather was a tad menacing looking (not why we took the Priest), but it blew over and we went. More of a ghosting along day. Got good about quitting time. But, it was over cast and cool and we didn't spend much time under two knots. The sandwiches were good and the drinks were cold. Most importantly, we were in a boat.

Went sailing in the rain yesterday in a fish class (think scaled up sunfish on steroids) that's owned by a really neat lady. One of my buddies was doing some work on the boat for her and I helped him a bit. He got her finished yesterday, so we put her in the water and the owner told us to take it out for a shakedown. Light drizzle and minimal wind, but we went anyway. The thing will sail in the breeze off a hummingbird wing. Had fun. Got wet. Got nothing done on the project. Did I mention that the owner is in her late 90's. She would normally have shaken it down herself, but it was raining. Apparently, she was the only one in the group that had any sense.

Rained like stink today, so I had a good run at the galley table project. The dish rack is slow going, but I have all of the pieces made. I have a couple of decorative cuts to make, but had to come upstairs and sit down for awhile. Had a router bit grab a work piece and pull in the index finger of my plucking hand. Wasn't too bad, but wouldn't clot while in use, so I knocked off for the day. One of those repetitive operations (6th time I had routered the same type of notch), and I got careless. I let my hand get too close to the cut, so when the bit grabbed, the piece moved just enough... Got the Admiral to rub some dirt on it and put a tourniquet around my neck so I could finish that notch. But, called it a day after that.

This will be one of the more complex pieces I've done, and I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to get a good varnish job done on it. May have to pre-finish several pieces before it goes together... Hard to sand between coats inside of a plate rack or a cup silo.
