Adding a Y-Valve Plumbing question

Post by MarkSouth »

Long long time since I have messed with boat plumbing and just don't remember how this works. I seem to remember however there was a rubber fitting on the end of the 1 1/2 inch white hose. The 1 1/2 inch Y-Valve is too small. I have some other 1 1/2 inch barbed fittings and its too big to go inside the white hose. Does anyone know what I am looking for to connect the white host the the Y-Valve? What is is called and where do I get it?

O the good old days I lived in SF Bay like 30 years ago and the marine store had all the answers. So now I am stuck. Thanks to this forum there is hope I will get this working!

Mark,

How about a little more information - guess no one has replied since we cannot really picture what you are asking.

What hose are you talking about? What is the fitting used for?

The hose pictured is similar to what was used in some of my swimming pool plumbing. Have you tried a swimming pool supply business?

One way I got these hoses to go over fittings is to heat them until they are pliable.

I went to the local marine store, they dont know much, so I purchase what should be the same 1 1/2 inch hose. I got 1 foot for an experiment.

The inside diameter of the new hose is what I expected, 1 1/2 inch. The one that came with my boat is actually 1/8 over on the ID of the hose. That is what didn't make any sense. Who knows where the previous owner got that from!? Mystery solved.

So as the hose if $4.50 per foot rather than changing the hose I will leave it in there and make a couple of adapters that will hook to the YValve. I am hoping this will hold well for the deck pump out. I then tried to use my shop vac from the deck fitting after I got the YValve installed but it didnt draw up the water in the tank I am guessing its just not strong enough to do so. The vac sounded like I had my hand over the end.

In the next day or two I will hook up the maceration pump to the other side of the YValue. It says its self priming so I hope it works! Otherwise I have now filled up the tank with clear water from the garden hose and will not have a way to empty it :(

This is really about the same as what I experienced with pool hose and fittings. Try using a heat gun to heat up the hose until it is real flexible and then work/stretch it over the fitting.

If the boat is on the trailer and you can run the garden hose down into the tank put it to the bottom of the tank. Then turn the hose on for a minute to fill it and then take it off the spigot and the water will all siphon out. Did this with the bilge of the Endeavour up on stands and it emptied it all except for the last inch.

Do you have a macerator on the head or a hand pump to get the toilet waste into the holding tank. If so are you then using another macerator to empty the tank?
